History

The foundations of DCT Trading were laid in 2002 when Levent Sadık Ahmet, then a university student, began trading cotton. Operating internationally from the first year, he rapidly increased the tonnage of cotton traded over time and established DCT Trading in 2007, bringing the business into a corporate structure.

In its early years, DCT Trading supplied Turkish yarn and textile manufacturers with baled cotton sourced from abroad, particularly Greece. Over time, this activity expanded to sourcing products from Brazil, the United States, the Turkic Republics, Pakistan, China, Indonesia and other markets. The Company also began purchasing cotton produced in Türkiye and became an exporter. Today, it manages the full logistics process for delivering Turkish cotton to many countries around the world, particularly China, Pakistan and Indonesia.

Over the years, DCT Trading has diversified into other commodities and also connects buyers with agricultural commodities such as wheat, rice and corn sourced from various countries worldwide.

DCT Trading is a member of the International Cotton Association (ICA) and Better Cotton (BC) and has become a global player capable of trading organic cotton through its GOTS and Control Union audit processes.

In 2015, Levent Sadık Ahmet took a new initiative and decided to invest in Western Thrace, his ancestral homeland. The decision had a commercial rationale but was also intended to contribute to the people of Western Thrace as part of the responsibility associated with the legacy he carries. Considering that agriculture is a primary livelihood in the region, an investment in a dedicated cherry facility was planned. YAKA IKE was established in 2015, laying the foundations of a world-class cherry processing facility. The facility began operations in 2017, successfully completed its quality-control processes and obtained certifications aligned with EU food standards. It has since helped integrate growers into certified agricultural systems, processing locally produced cherries and exporting them to major European supermarket chains.

In 2021, BLUEFARM IKE was established, marking the Group’s move into primary production. Operating on 200 decares of land, Bluefarm became the largest blueberry producer in Greece and neighboring countries.

In addition to their own production and trading activities, subsidiaries YAKA and BLUEFARM share knowledge and experience on modern agricultural techniques and technology-enabled farming models with members of the Western Thrace Turkish community engaged in agriculture.
